Patio Door shutters

Hi everyone - hope this is the right place to post this question!
I am looking to have some folding shutters installed on a set of patio doors - can anybody recommend a company they
have used for this sort of thing? Many thanks in advance.

We have wooden shutters and recently had some new ones made, but the smaller ones for windows. We used Andreas Karapiperis from Peyia - 99 471 796. Very pleased.

You could try Kasino Rolex. They have shutters, but only aluminium type I guess. We use them for electrical roll shutters and the garage door. But I thought to have seen normal shutters there too. Not far from Paps bakery on Polis road.

Wooden shutters will need repainting every couple of years and the sun will warp the wood and loosen the joints over time. Aluminium is certainly better. Bear in mind the colour. If you go for a strong colour remember you will see the colour from the inside of the house when closed (and they undoubtedly will be closed most of time) and it will clash with furnishings. Also it will almost certainly go out of fashion in a couple of years. White is arguably the best choice and looks good for many years.

There are plenty of aluminium assemblers around Paphos, and the prices vary, in spite of the fact that there is only one supplier of the aluminium they use on the island, so shop around. Take the measurements of the door space and use those to get a quote.

Some of them are more reliable than others. I have been waiting since July for one company to measure up a shutter for a small window the same company fitted more than a year ago along with two sets of folding doors. They did the big job promptly, and were paid on completion, but the smaller job seems too much trouble. While I have not been in a rush for the shutter, I decided a while back to get someone else to quote, when the weather gets better ... unless they turn up and complete the job in the meantime.

Personally I would go for beige. Beige is a neutral colour. When we replace all our windows and shutters in the not too distant, we will go for a flecked beige colour. I would suggest beige tends to mask accumulated dust and sand (from periodic sandstorms) better than white.

I have had both wooden and now aluminium shutters. We found wooden shutters a lot more effort to maintain. If you don't, they look awful and also the wood will probably rot if left untreated. If you decide to have wood, go for a hard wood. Much more expensive, but the cheaper pine ones may be made with unseasoned damp wood, which then Is liable to warp in strong summer sun. Hard woods are more resilient often.

We now have aluminium shurters which have adjustible slats and can be locked. They come in various colous, including white and dark brown. They are also available with a wood effect. I think that shutters often look smarter if they are the same colour as the window and french windows frames. They just need a wash when dirty, plus some WD40 to keep the hinges and locks easy to operate. Ours are 17 years old and are still in very good condition.

Many thanks for all the advice - I expect we'll go for white aluminium then as it will match the frame and the new patio doors we have had installed - which are a considerable improvement
from the original ones both from a draught and security perspective!

Hi Tony,
Yes, that sounds like a good choice. I use my shutters for both extra warmth in winter when shut abd also of course for security in these times. As mine have adjustible louvres, these come in useful in summer, as you can keep them closed with the louvres adjusted to let in the amount of light that you want, while also shielding the glass in the windows from the direct heat from the sun. That tends to help to keep a room cooler, while not leaving you sitting in the dark!

Tony of Lemba Glass - Phone No. 99542099 or 99699 707, Next to the Church in Lemba. Last year we had white aluminium shutters fitted to 2 large patio doors. A patio door fitted to the side as the old door had dropped and the whole panel was really tatty, shutters to that as well. Shutters to 2 bedrooms and 1 other small window. We got 2 other quotes before his and as we had used him before and he was really good, we decided were going to use him as long as he wasn't much more expensive. He was actually the cheapest, even using the newer profile and security locks on the doors. He did a nice job, even phoned to say that he would be late on the install day as it was bucketing down. He arrived 20 minutes after it stopped raining. Our neighbours then used him and they were really pleased. Nice guy, small family firm, set up by his dad, that always seems busy.

Called twice at his premises as I needed an 'off cut' of aluminum and was prepared to pay for it.

On both occasions he insisted in not charging me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
