I am genuinely gutted.

I went to see him in London on his last tour and he was superb.

Those who think he was a shallow, vain, pointless pop star who only wrote trite, disposable pop songs are sadly mistaken. He was a great songwriter and, like so many of us, a fragile and often tortured soul who struggled with his demons.
